Frequently Asked Questions
  1. Where can I find out more information about the 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games?
On Your Marks! contains certain information about the plans for the Games in 2012. However, as it has been created for children, schools and parents, information presented has been tailored to these groups. For more details of the plans and more general information visit www.london2012.com
  2. I am having trouble downloading the factsheets from the website. Can you help?
The factsheet section of the site contains pdfs for download. If you are not able to view them, you may not have the correct programme or an out-of-date version installed on your computer. Visit the Adobe Acrobat site for more information.
  3. I have been searching for a certain photo but cannot find it.
On Your Marks! contains a selection of images that we feel are relevant to schools and parents and that compliment the selection of news articles, factsheets and teaching ideas on the site. It may be that the image isn’t stored within the site, hence why your search result isn’t returning anything. We hope to add to the collection of photos over time.
  4. Can I use the photos I have found in class?
All the materials on the website can be downloaded as long as they are used within the classroom environment. This includes downloading photos and using them as you see fit.
  5. I sent in a teaching idea a few weeks ago and it hasn’t appeared on the site yet. Why is this?
We try to publish as many teaching ideas as we can, but there are limits to how many we put up every month. It may be that yours is in a queue and will appear shortly. However, LOCOG reserves the right to refuse to publish any teaching ideas. This may be because we feel the content is not appropriate or it doesn’t fit the Olympic Ideals or Paralympic Ethos. We aim to publish teaching ideas that have been submitted on a fortnightly basis. If you are still concerned that your idea has not been received, please resubmit the teaching idea. You should receive an acknowledgement note after you have done this.
  6. Can I use the 2012 logo in class?
LOCOG strongly supports the promotion of the Olympic and Paralympic ideals through education and will be encouraging schools to embed these themes within their curriculum. LOCOG is, therefore, very supportive of the use of Games’ Marks to support teaching within a classroom setting. However, schools should not use the Games’ Marks and protected words to create, for example, a “brand” for the school or its events (eg schools should not host “Mini Olympics” or “2012 Days”, or use the Games’ Marks in school literature). Similarly, schools should not link their activities in relation to the Games in any way to third party commercial entities (eg if children do an art project linked to the Games, this should not then be exhibited in a local shop or be sponsored by a local business). In other words, the Games’ Marks should be used to enhance learning but we cannot allow them to be used by schools in other ways which could damage the London 2012 brand and LOCOG’s ability to raise revenue to help it to host the Games.
